Abstract
[el] Το φύλλο της εφημερίδας Ελευθερία της 25ης Απριλίου 2002 επικεντρώνεται στις πολιτικές εξελίξεις γύρω από το Κυπριακό και στις δηλώσεις του ύπατου εκπροσώπου της Ε.Ε. Χαβιέρ Σολάνα, οι οποίες χαρακτηρίστηκαν ως «πρόκληση». Ο κύριος τίτλος, «Βόμβα Σολάνα», αναφέρεται στη δήλωσή του ότι η Κύπρος μπορεί να ενταχθεί πλήρως στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση ακόμη και χωρίς επίλυση του πολιτικού ζητήματος. Η θέση αυτή προκάλεσε έντονες αντιδράσεις σε Αθήνα και Λευκωσία, με τον Καραγιάννη να τονίζει: «Δεν είναι αυτός που αποφασίζει», ενώ ο Φερχόϊγκεν επιβεβαίωσε την προοπτική πλήρους ένταξης.
Στη στήλη «Άποψη», το άρθρο με τίτλο «Ο Σολάνα προπομπός πτώσεων» ασκεί κριτική στη διπλωματική τακτική της Ε.Ε. και εκφράζει ανησυχία για τις συνέπειες των δηλώσεών του.
[fr] L’édition du 25 avril 2002 du journal Eleftheria met l’accent sur les développements politiques liés à la question chypriote et sur les propos du haut représentant de l’UE, Javier Solana, qualifiés de « provocateurs ». Le titre principal, « La bombe Solana », fait référence à sa déclaration selon laquelle Chypre pourrait adhérer pleinement à l’Union européenne même sans règlement politique. Cette position a suscité de vives réactions à Athènes et à Nicosie. Karayiannis a répondu : « Ce n’est pas à lui de décider », tandis que Verheugen a confirmé la possibilité d’une adhésion complète.
Dans la rubrique « Opinion », l’article « Solana, avant-coureur des chutes » critique la diplomatie européenne et alerte sur les conséquences politiques de ces déclarations.
[en] The April 25, 2002 issue of Eleftheria focuses on the political implications of statements made by EU High Representative Javier Solana regarding Cyprus. The front-page headline, “Solana Bombshell,” refers to his assertion that Cyprus could fully join the European Union even without a political settlement. This statement sparked strong reactions in both Athens and Nicosia. Karayiannis responded that “he is not the one to decide,” while Verheugen reaffirmed Cyprus’s full accession prospects.
In the “Opinion” column, the piece titled “Solana as Harbinger of Downfalls” criticizes the EU’s diplomatic stance and warns of the political fallout such statements may cause.
